Welcome

Welcome to Renate's Baton. This blog is mostly for and about my choir, The York Region Community Choir.

But, While I'm holding the baton, I'm in charge. So, if I want to talk about other parts of my life, I will. :)

The choir itself is a community and I'm discovering that we have a lot in common with one another besides our love of music and singing.

When I go off on a tangent, there is always a crowd coming along. Join us!

My Sing-along Café at Trinity on Main: Thursday afternoons

I'm inviting my choir friends to my informal, friendly, community singing time at Trinity on Main, the United Church in Newmarket, 461 Park Ave at Main St.

Robin's a regular there and we have a wonderful time every Thursday, singing and talking and nibbling on treats and sipping tea.

We sing along with recordings of famous songs by famous singers on Apple playlists that I prepare by theme. We sing and we talk about anything the songs might inspire us to talk about. Often we talk about when we heard the songs in our youth, the events we remember, and how we didn't know the lyrics. Some of my themes are big, like Peace, Home, Nature, and Beauty. We had a theme of Food in music, too, and Days of the Week.

Please consider coming. It's always interesting when new people come, and we get to hear about different songs and different eras. Singing is good for you, and music, like all art, is inspiring.

We sing from 2:00 to 3:00 in the Fellowship Room. Enter from the Park Ave. door. Don't park behind the church; that's a daycare parking. Park on Main Street, or in the town lot by the library, or down at Riverwalk Commons, by the Community Centre.

I made pumpkin apple muffins with streusel crumbs. I'll make you a cup of tea if you like.
