Summer 2026 Singing and Dancing in our Communities

Having been disappointed by the cancellation of the first Thursday evening concert in Newmarket, July 16th, I didn't get my hopes up too high for last Wednesday's Michael Jackson tribute concert. I didn't make a post to say I wanted to go. I just put it on the calender, and watched the weather forecast. 

I really really wanted to go though. George St. Kitts is an excellent entertainer. I've watched him perform several times. And, last year this same show (History) was rained out in Newmarket, and I was there with my sister and nephew from BC. It started out so good, and then the rain came. We all got wet and then ran to our cars when it started to pour. Sad; so disappointing. And then, this year my plans for the first outdoor concert got washed out. Such bad luck!

Well, this year History: Tribute to Michael Jackson was in Aurora, so I had a second chance, and I went. Even though I couldn't get anyone to come with me, I went. I posted in the afternoon, but I guess it was too late, so I had to go alone. It was such enormous fun! There were tons of people there, tons and tons of energy and excitement! I danced and sang along to every song on the dance floor in front of the stage. There was very little time to talk, but I did talk to a couple lovely people. Fantastic evening! 

I hope, cautiously, that I'll get to sing and dance at more of these outdoor concerts this summer, and that I'll get to go in a group of friends too. 

I have them all in the YRCC Calendar, all the Wednesdays in Aurora and all the Thursdays in Newmarket. Of course there are plenty of other outdoor concerts in our area, so I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

YRCC Event July 15, 2026 Choir Revolution was Excellent!

We were a table of 6, with beer and snacks to share, fun conversation and then SINGING! It was so much fun! 

We will definitely plan another one of these, and next time we'll make it an Event on the YRCC website so we can sign up and email each other to plan carpools. The parking at Market Brewing Company is not great, but even if we planned to park across the street at the Med Centre/Little Ceasars plaza and take one car across, it would be easier. 

For $25 it was an excellent evening of entertainment and carefree togetherness. 

Here's a video of our big three-part song, Ahead By a Centry by The Tragically Hip. It was so good, and just one guitar as accompaniment. We sang If I Could Read Your Mind by Gordon Lightfoot with live accompaniment, and sang a bunch of other songs with recordings. Jenn and I added some YRCC spice to Hallelujah. It felt awesome.

First Free Concert of Summer of 2026 in Newmarket July 9- I'm going!

I'm planning to go to the first of the summer concerts at Riverwalk Commons in Newmarket on Thursday nights. It's this Thursday, July 9th, starting at 6:30 with an opening act that I don't want tto miss. The headliner is a tribute band doing Elton John and Billy Joel songs. Lots of songs I can sing along with ;-) I hope to find some of my singing friends there. 

There's also a concert in Aurora tomorrow, Wednesday evening. It's a good one: The Beresfords. They did an amazing Taylor Swift concert a couple years ago that had all the little girls believing the singer was TS herself. I'm not planning to go, but I could probably be talked into it...

I just saw on Facebook that there are concerts on Tuesday nights in East Gwillimbury and they have a market too, from 4-9. The Civic Centre is on Leslie at Mt. Albert Road (and south of Mt. Albert/Farr if you're coming from the west). The band tonight looks really good. I'm having a sleepy day today, but if I can get my act together, I'll maybe go.

Please consider going to some free outdoor concerts this summer to be sure you keep singing while there's no choir. 

It's so much fun, and it's free! Because it's outdoors, it's relaxed and you can sing along, dance along, have a beverage and snacks... and you can go with your non-choir people. 

• Bring friends and chairs. 
• Get there early.
• Check out the weather conditions before you head out.
