About the YRCC

The York Region Community Choir is a fun mixed choir of people who love to sing a variety of music in 2, 3 and 4 part harmony. We meet every Tuesday from 7:30-9:30 in Newmarket, Ontario at the York Region Administrative Centre in the Seminar Room just inside the North Entrance. For many years we met on Mondays.

We are a non-auditioning choir, and we don't enter any competitions. We share our music at seniors' homes and twice a year at public concerts. Sometimes we participate in community events.

We have a wonderful pianist, Donna Corbett, accompany us and help me to teach the parts and then bring them together. I use a baton to conduct.

We have an elected executive that runs the choir, making sure we're all where we need to be and have music, etc.

The choir started out as an inclusive offshoot of the York Regional Police Male Chorus in 1995. Read about it in my post about the origins of the choir. (Finally, in 2019, the York Regional Police Community Chorus began to include women and changed its name.)
